Senior AccountantCalibre CPA Group is an established and growing public accounting firm, and we are seeking a dedicated Senior Accountant to join our Accounting and Financial Services department. The Senior Accountant supports the daily administration of our clients' finance departments. Responsibilities include but are not limited to accounting and operational management, business development and team leadership. This position offers excellent opportunities for leadership and career advancement.Our offices are located in downtown Bethesda, MD office with travel in and around the greater Washington, DC metro area. We also have offices in Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA and New York NY.Accounting & Operational Management:

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures
  • Maintain control over a monthly and annual closing process that ensures timely client deliverables
  • Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for monthly and annual close
  • Prepare supporting schedules for annual audit
  • Assist in the annual budgeting process
  • Compare budgeted to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
  • Prepare allocations of payroll and overhead costs to project/program, and grants; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants
  • Update and monitor cash flow forecasting
  • Track the performance of invested assets and ensure that investment activity is properly recorded in the general ledger
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are accounted for in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ensure full integration of data with all financial systems throughout the organization
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, local and private reporting requirements, including federal and state information tax returns, federal and state payroll tax returns, sales and property tax returns and other returns pertaining to charitable organizations and solicitationsCommunication
    • Monitor engagement progress and changes and keep manager and partners abreast of status
    • Provide supervision, review and leadership to Calibre staff
    • Carry out an open-book style of financial management by sharing and training others on basic and technical accounting issues
    • Support the manager and partner in reporting to client management
    • Work with program directors and staff at each client to establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations
    • Work with Payroll Service Providers to communicate changes and ensure that client payroll processing is accurate and timelyTeam Leadership
      • Ensure that the portion of the client service and other budgets under his/her guidance are adhered to the best of his/her abilities
      • Represent the AFS department on appropriate cross-functional team(s) throughout Calibre (technical, social etc.)
      • Perform special projects as needed and/or requested
      • Participate in learning opportunities to enhance individual, team, and organizational performance
      • Ensure alignment of team to Calibre mission and organizational goalsBusiness Development
        • Look for opportunities to drive more core services into the current client base
          • Look for opportunities to introduce expanded services to current clientsRequired Qualifications:
            • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
            • 2+ years of progressive experience in public or private accounting
            • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
            • Ability to perform in a team-oriented environment
            • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
            • Strong client service orientation
            • Ability to travel locally to our client sitePreferred Qualifications:
              • 1+ years of accounting experience in non-profit industry
