purpose of the Category Manager is to manage all aspects of the
assortment process for assigned category of goods by ensuring that
product planning and selection, display, distribution and
logistics, systems maintenance and lifecycle management are
performed in a way that creates compelling merchandise assortments
that are consistent with the company's financial goals and
strategies.Essential Functions
- Identify customer preferences and forecast consumer trends in
the Snack & Beverage categories
- Discover and purchase new products while checking the quality
and growth trends compared to current items.
- Negotiate terms of agreements to achieve the best program
(cost, rebates, incentives) for the company
- Ensure the timely delivery of products and compliance with the
contracts purchased.
- Monitor the purchases of products on a quarterly basis to
ensure product is selling
- Create annual budget for rebates or incentives for each
supplier
- Create and send quarterly invoices to suppliers for rebates or
volume allowances and follow up on any outstanding balances
- Set up all new suppliers are properly set up in the A/P system
and ensure the suppliers are approved by Quality Assurance before
creating a Purchase Order.
- Manage vendor/supplier logistics and freight management
procedures, works with accounting and vendors for timely payments
of invoices and processing of rebates, discounts.
- Run quarterly purchasing reports to ensure product cost are
what was agreed in the contract
- Create reports on sales, budgets and customer satisfaction and
adjust strategies accordingly
- Forge and maintain trust relationships with suppliers to
promote fair dealings
- Support any Ad Hoc projects that relate to the Snack & Beverage
categories.
- Assist in executes corporate Matrix programs as they relate to
specific assigned categories
- Maintains contact with industry to identify and evaluate trends
and product innovations, sources new products, and develops custom
products for stores. (attend events, conferences and seminars)
- Negotiates and creates promotional calendar and partners with
suppliers to increase sales or opportunity buys to generate margin
dollars.Reporting relationship and other important information
- The Category Manager position as described falls under the Fair
Labor Standards act as an Exempt position
- The position is required to travel occasionally and irregularly
as necessary, potentially up to 5 days per month
- The Category Manager reports to the Sr Director, Supply
ChainMinimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work
Environment
- Requires business acumen and technical skills generally
associated with the achievement of a Bachelor's degree in Business,
Finance, or related field, and Requires 5 years progressive buying
experience in Snack, Beverage or Retail Buying or Category
Management
- Requires proven track record as a Category Manager or Buyer in
a geographically dispersed retail organization and demonstrated
merchandising skills; knowledge of store operations, distribution
and logistics; technical retail skills and the ability to interpret
market research and product performance
- Requires experience negotiating contracts and managing third
party/outsourced relationships
- Requires computer skills including Microsoft Office and other
accounting, retail systems
- Requires strong technical oral, written and interpersonal
