Description
Ambulatory Procedures Unit (APU) Medical-Surgical RN
HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1): The duties for the HCW are as follows:
A. Shall be knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and
skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and
supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses,
medical staff, patients, and family members.
B. Shall be knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide
care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients. The
Contract RN shall demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth
and development appropriate to the appropriate patient population
served: Infants, Children, Adolescent, Adults, and Geriatric (>
65).
C. Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver and evaluate care for
infant to geriatric patients using the nursing process.
D. Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions,
diagnostic studies and treatments related to prevention, and
detection of illnesses in adults, is desirable.
E. The contracted RN will be knowledgeable in professional care
theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing
assignments of moderate difficulty, such as on patients with
special needs, paralysis, amputations, and expressive
disorders.
F. Fully comprehend and be fluent in speaking and writing the
English language.
G. National Practitioner Data Bank Information: Complete the Data
Information Sheet. This information is used to query the National
Data Ban
H. Shall be able to, when required as a part of nursing work,
assist with bed-to-bed, bed-to-chair, chair-to-chair,
wheelchair-to-commode, and commode to wheelchair transfer; walk the
distance of 500 yards without needing rest, push an occupied
wheelchair, push an occupied gurney, lift linen bags of 30 lbs.; be
dexterous enough to type efficiently and prepare medications from
vials; and be able to read (with or without assistive devices)
computer screens and medication vials/packets.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear
distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires
potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping,
sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and
objects may be required. The Contractor may be exposed to infected
patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don
protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive
procedures. The Contractor may occasionally be exposed to patients
who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric
disorders. The Contractor must be a mature, flexible, sensible
individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations,
able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete all
Credentialing Health requirements as a condition of employment,
such as TB, Hepatitis, Rubella, etc.
Qualifications
HCW Qualifications (Contract PWS 5.2; 5.2.3; 5.2.4; 5.2.6.4.4):
--- Degree/Education (5.2.4): Graduate of a school of professional
nursing, approved by a legally designated state accrediting agency
and hold current registration as a registered professional nurse
and has successfully passed the National Council Licensure
Examination (NCLEX). Copy of certification and license
required.
Bachelor's degree of Registered Nursing.
Certifications:
As required by assigned MTF. These certifications shall be
maintained at no cost to the government.
--- Experience: Have at least two current years of experience as a
Medical-Surgical Nurse on an inpatient surgery ward or outpatient
surgery center.
--- Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): The institution will be from a
National League of Nursing (NLN) approved program. Successfully
pass the NCLEX exam. Copy of Certificate and license required.
(a) Have successfully completed a Post-Anesthesia Care
course/training program or is nationally certified as a Certified
Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN). (b) Will at a minimum be Board
Eligible
Licensure/Registration: possess current, active, valid,
unrestricted license in at least one U.S. State, District of
Columbia, Commonwealth, Territory, or jurisdiction. See Exhibit
