SummarySUMMARY:The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) & VP, Patient
Care Services provides executive oversight of clinical and
non-clinical departments at Northwest Hospital. Responsible for
day-to-day operations of these departments as a mentor, strategist
and operational leader to the department director and staff
ensuring accountabilities are established and accomplished.
Maintains a cooperative and consultative relationship with other
members of Executive Management toward the accomplishment of
hospital goals and objectives.Responsibilities
- Fosters effective interdepartmental coordination between
assigned departments and departments assigned to other members of
Executive Management Team.
- Maintains a clear understanding of individual leadership goals.
Supports the accomplishment of others' goals by encouraging the
support of subordinate department directors.
- Works closely with, and maintains effective communication and
productive working relationships with, other executive
leaders.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the
activities of the Nursing Department and other departments within
Patient Care Services.
- Effectively cooperates with medical staff and other Hospital
personnel to ensure quality of service delivered to patients meets
Hospital, medical staff, and community expectations.
- Reviews department performance as measured against Joint
Commission/CMS standards, Medicare Conditions of Participation,
licensure requirements, and those established by the Board of
Trustees. Ensures compliance with same.
- Participates in organizational strategic planning and oversees
quality, financial planning and outcomes in areas of
responsibility. Uses experience and knowledge from internal and
external activities to help develop strategies for the
organization; recommends new programs and services for the
organization to consider.
- Works with department directors to establish quality indicators
that meet organizational goals and operational guidelines,
monitoring quality outcomes on a regular basis to ensure that goals
are met. Ensures departments' performance meets Joint Commission
standards, Medicare Conditions of Participation, licensure
requirements, and chosen performance improvement indicators.
- Proactively maintains positive employee relations throughout
the organization. Addresses employee issues promptly by developing
a course of action that complies with institutional policies.
- Mentors leaders around effective employee relations to ensure
the highest levels of retention.
- Strives to recruit subordinates whose management style is
consistent with Hospital's philosophy and culture.
- Holds subordinates accountable for performance that meets
organization's standards and needs.
- Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional
growth and development to remain current with trends in hospital
administration and knowledge regarding technological changes.
- Stays abreast of strategies and trends by accessing industry
publications and communications and occasionally attending
conferences. Participates in professional organizations (e.g.,
Maryland Hospital Association, Maryland Organization of Nurse
Executives/AONE).
- Models the behavior for customer service and takes initiative
to ensure expectations are met and exceeded wherever possible.
Extremely responsive, approachable, and able to communicate
effectively with all levels of staff within the institution,
patients, visitors, and employees throughout the organization.
- Regularly tours the facilities to solicit feedback regarding
performance, needs, and employee satisfaction.
- Monitors financial outcomes on a regular basis to ensure
budgets are met.
- Encourages appropriate creativity to keep financial outcomes
within the established budget. Responsible for divisional annual
operating and capital budgets to be approved by the President.
Works with directors to determine profitability in identified and
agreed-upon initiatives.Qualifications And Requirements
- Master's degree in Nursing required.
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Registered Nurse (RN) License - Current Maryland license or
eligibility to obtain Maryland license.Additional InformationAs one
