Project Summary

The project provides technical advisory/applications development support of a web applications development environment in a high profile, mission critical FDA program encompassing over 30 applications and systems. There is a critical need for a technical resource who has hands-on web development (Java or .Net) and application design experience to work closely with FDA project managers, technical staff, and with a team of DRT resources.

Position Summary

The Web Applications Development Consultant will leverage their strong technical background to provide technical project support, particularly in the areas of code reviews, design reviews, reviewing technical documents and deliverables, proposing high-level technical solutions and providing technical guidance and recommendations to team members. This position does not involve hands-on development, it focuses on providing technical guidance and recommendations to FDA IT Projects Managers to ensure software development projects are successful.

Provide technical support to specific IT projects
Lead code reviews and design reviews
Assist with vendor and/or product technical evaluations
Review vendor project artifacts and deliverables such as project schedules, test plans, etc.
Review vendor designs and technical approaches to provide recommendations and guidance
Support the deployment of systems
Facilitate the completion of various infrastructure-related tasks by the FDA's data center support vendor
Facilitate the troubleshooting of hardware, network, database issues which may include performance, connectivity, application and/or integration problems. You will not directly access or administer the hardware or systems, but will work with the responsible parties in order to ensure issues get resolved
Actively contribute to application design and development discussions with the implementation vendor and project team
Develop technical recommendations in support of project goals
Writing/drafting project artifacts and deliverables

Required Experience
A minimum of 5 years hands-on web applications development experience
5 years of Java or .Net coding
Experience with UI Design and Development
Experience with full life cycle software development
Strong organization skills with a demonstrated track record of tracking and managing multiple tasks
Strong customer service skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Experience
Experience with DevOps
Experience with agile project methodologies
Experience with cloud application development and/or migration
Experience with open source technologies
Experience with mobile application design and/or development

Education and Training
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
Preferred: Cloud Certified (ex. AWS Cloud Practitioner)
