We are seeking an individual to work as a Website Developer at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MDThis is a long-term contract position which offers:

  • Follow the principles of progressive enhancement to add interactive functionality to NIMH websites
  • Maintain and enhance the current design of the main NIMH website
  • Ensure responsive site design displays properly on common mobile devices
  • Translate design mockups in PSD and similar formats into semantic HTML and CSS
  • Optimize the design of user interface (UI) elements
  • Extend CSS/JavaScript frameworks (for example, Twitter Bootstrap) to implement UI elements
  • Write modern, efficient, and modular JavaScript
  • Perform client-side development, CMS development and integrate client-side components with server-side applications
  • Monitor, test, and optimize front-end performance of NIMH websites
  • Participating in meetings; collaborate with staff on Web development projects
  • Follow the principles of progressive enhancement to add interactive functionality to NIMH websites
  • Maintain and enhance the current design of the main NIMH website
  • Ensure responsive site design displays properly on common mobile devices
  • Translate design mockups in PSD and similar formats into semantic HTML and CSS
  • Provide project management guidance and assistance to specific projects and activitiesCERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES REQUIRED
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences and 10 years of experience
    • Expertise in current Web standards
    • Expertise with Drupal
    • Expertise with Section 508 requirements
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with the frontend of Web applications.
    • 2 years of experience working with responsive designs, including proficiency with CSS media queries, mobile/touch design strategies and patterns and the abilities of mobile, tablet and desktop browsers.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with a CSS/JavaScript framework (for example, Twitter Bootstrap or Zurb).
