About The Role

FTI Consulting Inc.'s Environmental Solutions practice is seeking a consultant with experience in environmental science or a related scientific field. The Environmental Solutions practice works in the areas of alternative dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation), litigation, forensic historical research, cleanup cost and damages allocation, environmental claims analysis, and financial and cost accounting. The primary responsibility of this position is to support complex engagements related to dispute resolution with technical support and analysis. This position requires understanding, interpreting, and analyzing environmental data primarily related to site investigations and remediations. The individual must possess the ability to work on multi-disciplinary teams (staffed by geologists, engineers, scientists, historians, etc.) and multiple projects concurrently. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet critical client deadlines. The ideal candidate will have experience with developing and implementing sampling plans and/or work plans and interpreting environmental sampling data. In addition, it is preferred that the candidate have experience in developing remediation strategies and overseeing remediation activities.

The types of desired experience cover a broad range of topics and include the following:

  • Understanding environmental statutes and regulations, with an emphasis on CERCLA and the National Contingency Plan
  • Hazardous waste storage management, disposal requirements
  • Contaminant fate and transport in the environment
  • Investigation and remediation of contaminated sites
  • Environmental sample collection and laboratory data interpretation
  • Technical report interpretation and analysis, including work plans, sampling plans, quality assurance plans, and completion reports
  • Environmental cost analysis
  • Database management
  • Data analysis and QA/QC
  • Geographic information systems information interpretation
  • Technical literature research What You'll Do

    Primary Duties:
    • Analyze and interpret technical reports and environmental sampling data related to the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites
    • Ability to interpret laboratory analytical reports and associated summary tables and chain-of custody documentation.
    • Develop and/or support the development of tables, figures, and reports summarizing analysis findings
    • Assist in the development of data repositories containing environmental sampling analytical results
    • Review, compile, organize, and manage large volumes of environmental reports and related records
    • Ability to understand, review and analyze environmental cost documentation including contracts, invoices, change orders, and unit rates
    • Ability to QA/QC analytical data and associated citations in work product
    • Ability to perform technical and scientific research including analyzing scientific literature and scientific studies How You'll Grow

        • B.A./B.S. in environmental science, geology, geoscience, or related technical field
        • 2+ years of environmental consulting experience including, but not limited to, supporting, developing, and implementing environmental sampling events and interpreting and analytical results and supporting remediation activities
        • Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Operating System
        • Effective communication is essential for this position
        • Analysis of environmental data using database and spreadsheet applications
        • Ability to think analytically and critically
        • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
        • This role requires travel to clients and FTI offices #LI-LL2
