Job Description:

ORAU has a contingent job opportunity for a Senior Imaging Scientist in support of the functions of the Division of Clinical Research (DCR), Office of Chief Scientist – Integrated Research Facility (OCSIRF), NIAID, located in Bethesda, MD. Imaging Sciences support for the IRF is needed to provide planning of state-of-the-art animal imaging studies, as well as accurate, and timely interpretations and analysis of various types of imaging data. The role of the Contract Senior Imaging Scientist is to advise the IRF Director on multiple facets of animal imaging studies, to assist in identifying imaging equipment upgrades, and serving as a subject matter expert for the design of appropriate animal imaging studies. The positions are contingent on award of an upcoming contract with NIAID Professional, Scientific and Technical Support Services. Salary for positions will be determined based on education and experience. Relocation support is not available for this position.

  • Advise the IRF Director about appropriate imaging modalities to achieve relevant biological endpoints in animal studies using novel, emerging or highly pathogenic viruses.
  • Participate in the design and execution of multiple complex imaging animal studies that use imaging as an endpoint.
  • Advise the IRF Director about imaging equipment and software upgrades to enhance the imaging capabilities of the IRF.
  • Interact with Comparative Medicine and Imaging branches of the IRF to provide expertise in biological endpoints related to animal imaging studies.
  • Provide a new capability to the IRF for cardiac imaging in animals to include studies using PET, CT, and MRI.
  • Advise the IRF Director, Division of Clinical Research Director, and the Director of CIDI (NIH Center for Infectious Disease Imaging) on translation of animal imaging studies to clinical studies.
  • Introduce new collaborative studies for review by the IRF Project Management Group.
  • Submit peer reviewed publications, preferably in high impact journals.
  • Write recommendations of imaging equipment and software upgrade recommendations.
  • Write plans for design of animal imaging studies.
  • Present to internal and extramural audiences of imaging work conducted at the IRF.
  • Prepare email communications of important findings.

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of related experience.
