Position Description
LiveAction is seeking a Java Engineer II to help take LiveAction to the next level. This position will be responsible for playing an active role in the analysis of requirements, design, and programming of our software solutions. Our Software Engineers apply and uphold industry-standard methodologies of systems design and architecture. We are looking for Senior Software Engineers at all levels who can understand complex problems, develop corresponding high-level and low-level designs and drive development using our development ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, tests, and enhances real-time software systems that handle a high volume of data
  • Delivers code and unit tests in an agile team environment through rapid prototyping and iterative development
  • Leads and participates in code reviews and knowledge sharing, driving the team to the highest standards
  • Adheres to and provides insights into our engineering standards and best practices
  • Collaborates effectively with team members, managers, and other teams to maximize team and overall company
  • Continually grows technical skills and knowledge of product requirements and latest technology trends, and contributes to future design and architecture of our products
  • Performs other engineering duties as assigned, and displays professionalism in all activities
    Qualifications
    Should be strong in (as many of these as possible):
    • Java language, ecosystem, libraries and tools
    • Data structures and algorithms
    • Concurrent programming
    • Data persistence technologies, SQL, NoSQL, acid, transactions, eventual consistency
    • Service-oriented architectures, REST, webhooks
    • Middleware, messaging services, enterprise service bus
    • Structured data formats, such as JSON, XML, Protobuf
    • Serialization, encoding, compression, encryption
    • Java reflection, dynamic proxies
    • Unit testing and mocking
    • Continuous Integration
    • Performance benchmarking and optimization
    • Networks, communication protocols, sockets
    • Functional programming
    • Reactive programming
    • Other JVM languages, such as Scala, Groovy
      Technologies
      Java, Scala, Akka, Jersey, Swagger, MongoDB, InfluxDB, Splunk, ActiveMQ, JMS, Camel, Gradle, Jenkins Pipeline, VMware, Docker, AWS

      Qualifications
      • B.S. degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (M.S. preferred)
      • 3+ years of experience in developing software engineering solutions
      • Strong Java and object-oriented design experience
      • Knowledge of functional programming and Scala a plus
      • Experience in agile development process such as Scrum a plus
      • Knowledge of the network preferred but not required
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills
      • Self-starter, able to work with little supervision, organized, and a team player
