PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONThe Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide expertise in electron microscopy, protein characterization, mass spectrometry, protein expression, optical microscopy, and genomics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR), where CRTP scientists work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIESThe NCI Center for Cancer Research (CCR) Single Cell Analysis Facility is recruiting a skilled and motivated bioinformatic analyst to provide support for advanced single cell technologies to CCR Investigators. This individual will work closely with other members of the Single Cell Analysis Facility in providing access to the most current single cell technologies, including single cell transcriptomics, chromatin accessibility assays, multimodal assays, and new spatially resolved profiling methods. Research projects will span a wide range of both basic and translational research projects driven by CCR Investigators and includes work within the Single Cell Analysis Facility in assessing and optimizing new assays and workflows.This Bioinformatic Analyst III will:

  • Assist in providing bioinformatics support including project consultation, experimental design, data processing, data management, and analysis of high throughput sequencing data from single cell technologies
  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of robust processing and analysis workflows and software pipelines, including the development of custom scripts and automated workflows for improved efficiency
  • Provide biological interpretation of experimental results and clearly and concisely present analysis findings results
  • Be an integral component in the training and support of single cell data analysis to allow better understanding and use of the data generated by the Single Cell Analysis Facility
  • Research, implement, test, and present on new tools and pipelines for high-throughput single cell data processing and analysisBASIC QUALIFICATIONSTo be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
    • Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in biomedical science/bioinformatics math/computer science related field or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
    • In addition to education requirements, a minimum of five (5) years related experience in a biological research laboratory environment with a strong background in bioinformatics application
    • Excellent programming skills, for example, in R, Python, and BASH; experience working with Linux command line
    • Possess experience in genomic and sequence analysis, construction of data processing pipelines, and quality control/quality assurance analysis
    • Hands-on experience in next generation sequencing analysis, including data quality assessment, mapping, and transcript profiling
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearancePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
      • Masters or PhD degree in biomedical science/bioinformatics/math/computer science related field
      • Working knowledge of current single cell sequencing methods
      • Prior experience working in a biomedical research laboratory, preferably with next-gen sequencing experience
      • Experience working in a core facility or other team-based environment
      • Demonstrated ability to learn new processes quickly
      • Knowledge and background experience in cancer biology and immunology
      • Experience with pipeline or software development
